Honoring Those Who Served

The law requires the Department of Defense to play taps, fold the U.S. flag, and present the flag to the next of kin. IAW current DOD directives, this is accomplished by a two-person detail. However, under special circumstances, additional honors may be provided based on the availability of resouces and/or participation from Veteran Service Organizations.

Please explore these nine military funeral honors traditions and the history behind them. In special cases, they are still provided today for deceased veterans of the United States military.
